CHAPTER 8

Two weeks later……

When Kam got home from work she couldn’t wait to get in the bed. Not only were her feet killing her but she had been having this sharp shooting pain going across her lower back. Kam had been feeling some cramping in her abdomen for about a week. She had a doctor’s appointment the next day. She decided to keep the baby after she felt it kick and had her first ultrasound.

Even though she felt alone, the weeks were going by and she was becoming content with the fact that she would have a little one running around her town house. As she undressed and went into the bathroom to run some bath water, she was hoping that soaking would ease the pain. Kam thought about how she hadn’t spoken to Aaron since the incident at the restaurant. He had been texting and calling her nonstop but Kam didn’t care. She vowed to herself that she was done with the bullshit.

As she got ready to step into the tube Kam felt a warm sensation run down her legs. She looked down and saw that it was blood but before she could react an excruciating pain crumpled her to the floor. She looked down between her legs and saw more blood gushing out. She gathered what little strength she had and crawled toward her room to get her phone to call Jada. As soon as she dialed Jada’s number she collapsed. Kam felt like she was going to die. She could hear Jada saying hello on her phone as everything around her started to fade to black.

When she opened her eyes, Kam looked around her and saw concerned faces staring at her. She looked down at her arm, noticed that she was hooked to an IV, and that’s when she remembered what happened. She grabbed her stomach and felt that her little pudge was now flat again. When she looked up Kam saw tears in her mother’s eyes, which caused tears to run down her face.

“Where’s my baby?” Kam asked her mom.

“Baby, they had to do an emergency C-section on you but the baby wasn’t strong enough to make it.”

Kam let out a gut wrenching scream that caused Jada and her mother Michelle to rush to her side. Kam laid her head on her mom’s chest while the tears poured down her face. She knew that she said she didn’t want the baby in the beginning but all that had changed and Kam was so heart broken. Kam didn’t know what she was going to do or where to start to pick up the pieces. She touched her stomach again. When she looked up, she saw Aaron standing there with a concerned look on his face. Hate wasn’t even the word that she felt for him. If looks could kill Aaron would be dead. Kam was distracted as Dr. Gail came into the room with her clipboard in hand.

“How are you feeling Ms. Kamina?”

“I just want my baby that’s all,” Kam said wiping her red face.
